Here's the text of my usual Wedding Photography Agreement — we sign a printed copy when you book me.

It's drawn up so we both avoid any awkward surprises! You should be able to feel confident about what I’m providing for you and how much it’s going to cost and, I can feel protected from disruptions to my work and commercial schedule, and from unreasonable liability.

Please read it to make sure that you are happy with the terms.

This agreement constitutes an order for my wedding photography services and products, as described below, and any changes to this contract are to be by mutual written agreement. In this agreement, the photographer is referred to as ‘I, my, me etc’’ and the client as ‘you, your etc’’

Coverage: from preparations to evening as agreed. Flash drive of 150+ edited hi-res images (for prints up to 10x8). Secure online gallery. Options for prints, canvas prints, albums, photobooks etc by arrangement.

Using my images of your wedding

You have free use of the images I provide you, apart from fee-paid commercial use. You can make prints, books, calendars etc and share the images on the internet, but you must ask my permission to use images commercially, and a licence fee may be applicable. I may use the photographs for my portfolio and other advertising, in competitions and for publication. I will ask your permission for commercial uses for which I receive a significant additional payment.

Other photographers

While I’m very happy for your guests to take photographs at your wedding, my photography is to be given priority. Where other photography might result in conflicting flashes or disruption to my work I may ask guests to stop taking photographs until I’ve completed mine. You must identify to me anyone else who is taking photographs or video at your wedding on a professional basis.

My commitments

I reserve the agreed time and date for your wedding photography and forego any other bookings for that time and date. Accordingly your retainer is nonrefundable, even if the date is changed or the wedding cancelled. I will work constructively with other service providers at your wedding.

I undertake to provide a disk with your images no later than 4 weeks after the wedding; prints are to be provided within 4 weeks of ordering; albums and books are to be provided within 8 weeks of ordering.

Your commitments

You are to agree a list of photographs that you particularly require, and provide assistance in gathering groups together, and in identifying people to be photographed. You also must identify anyone who does not want to be photographed and you should allow sufficient time for arranged photography in your wedding day schedule.

Payment: A € 200 retainer is due on signing this agreement, the balance of the agreed package fee to be paid 2 weeks before the wedding. Payments for additional services and products are to be made when the service or product is ordered.

My liabilities

If I’m unable, by accident or illness, to provide my services, I will make every reasonable effort to provide a competent ‘stand-in’ service. If I am unable to do this, my liability is limited to returning any fees you have paid me. Likewise, while I take every care with my equipment and the photographic processes, and bring back-up equipment, the limit of my liability for failing to produce all the images you’ve requested because of technical failure, or theft or loss of equipment, is to be no more than any fees you have paid me.
