Tuition
Tuition

Cameras have become amazingly versitile and capable, but verrry complex and more than a little confusing in the process. Most people only use a fraction of their potential.

I do one-to-one tuition, to help put that straight. I share simple tips and tricks that ensure people make the most of their equipment, whatever brand or quality it is. I introduce a checklist for shots, and I like to prioritise the controls, so that camera users can be confident about what is important to understand, and needn't waste time worrying about things that aren't. I can give advice on buying equipment if you want to upgrade.

My teaching capacity includes specialist workshops for artists and craftworkers, and workshops for businesses and groups of all types. I've coached retail sales people on specific camera systems and I'm open to doing some barter with businesses, and skills-swaps with individuals. Try me!

2018 Workshops

'Light on Stone', Sheep's Head, West Cork
Sat Mar 24, 2017  10am - 5pm
I'm very pleased to be running a workshop as part of the West Cork Stone Symposium. This is a new event that celebrates stone and the skills of working it, to be held in various locations around the majestic Sheep's Head Peninsula. Stone is everywhere: it's the core of the hills, the material of the seashore and cliffs, and the stuff of walls, houses and ancient castles. Add in some skilled stoneworkers laying it into walls and carving it and we will have a miltitude of great photogtaphic subjects to build skills with.
The workshop will kick off with an indoor tuition session followed by some outdoor/indoor practical sessions. I'll go through my list of tips and trick to help you make sure you're using your camera to the full. I'll specifically help with techniques for getting close-up shots and landscapes.

The Japanese Gardens, at the Irish National Stud, Kildare

Lovely opportunity to hone your photography skills in the fabulous Japanese Gardens and the Irish National Stud. Indoor tuition session before going out to photograph the gardens and horses and foals in the National Stud. Cost €110 including entry to the gardens and stud. Future Forests Garden Centre, West Cork
Sat Jun 2, 2017  10am - 4.30pm
Get to grips with your camera during a day at West Corks beautiful, funky garden centre. Lots to photograph and skilled guidance on hand. I'll go through my list of tips and trick to help you make sure you're using your camera to the full. I'll specifically help with techniques for getting close-up shots of plants and insects etc. €85 Book by credit card, over the phone at Future Forests +353 27 66176, or get in touch with me to reserve a place.

One-to-One tuition

Knowledge is usually more of a bottleneck than equipment for good photography! I do one-to-one tuition for half-day sessions or longer.  My current rate is €160 for a half day and €300 for a full day. I'm in the Dublin area from time to time, or you can use it as an excuse for trip to Cork or West Cork. If you're somewhere else, please ask and we can see what's possible. I'm particularly familiar with each of the Olympus OM-D models (and PENs to certain extent). These cameras are highly customisable and it makes a lot of sense to invest in some training if you want to get the best out of them.

Camera Clubs

I can bring up to 6 OM-D cameras and top lenses to clubs or ad-hoc groups, for members to get hands-on experience.
