Alas, the pandemic has put a stop to my woodcarving tuition for a while, probably until we're all vaccinated. I'm leaving the info here on the page, so anyone can see what I was up to. Please contact me if you'd like to get an update when we open up again.

I've been dusting down my woodwork studio several times a year for the last twenty years, to set it up to teach woodcarving skills for groups and individuals. It's a lovely workspace and the courses invariably attract genial people. Good stuff happens.
I'm responsive to individual needs and happy to coach experienced carvers, or get beginners off the ground. Some people come because they want to develop specific skills and others are here more for a focussed retreat, to loose themselves in a deeply engaging and mindful activity! Some people come to make a really personal gift for a wedding or some other celebration.

3-Day Woodcarving Workshops
I've been running 3-day workshops for over twenty years now. Three days is about right for beginners to pick up useful skills and finish a project. If I have room on a course I can take past students or experienced carver for two of the days, if that suits better.
We provide everything: tools, timber, refreshments and tasty lunches. The courses are not residential, but we can give you local accommodation suggestions. The workshop has a comprehensive library of woodworking books and magazines for inspiration and technical information.
I have several good photo-illustrated step-by-step projects to follow, but you're welcome to choose or design your own project, and to bring your own wood if you've got something particular you'd like to carve.
Good things to carve include: bowls, spoons, animals, Celtic knotwork, lettering, decorated chopping boards, sculptural shapes…
Cost: €370 with a €100 deposit, or €350 if paid in full at least 4 weeks in advance. Because it can be hard to fill a place at short notice, the €100 deposit (or €100 of a pre-paid or voucher purchase) is non-refundable if you cancel two weeks or less from the start of the course.
Course Dates 2020:
Everything is suspended until we sort out Covid!
Gift Vouchers
Vouchers make great presents — I can post one to you or email it for you to print yourself if time is tight. There is no extra charge, it will cost the same as the pre-pay price - €350.
One-to-One tuition
I work with individuals to build skills in woodcarving, furniture making or craft woodwork. I can give advice on buying and sharpening tools, and equiping workspaces etc. A day with me costs €450 and I can give a worthwhile discount on that day-rate if you book for two days or more. You get lunch and refreshments and access to the workshops extensive book and magazine library.
